Tribute Flag Returned To Fallen Marine's Mom

Updated: Monday, July 28 2014, 10:06 AM CDT
HOUSTON---The mother wasn't expecting a ceremony, a salute from dozens of strangers, and up until recently she wasn't expecting to get something like this.

Nine and a half years after her son's death in Fallujah, Iraq, his flag finally made it home.

The flag has heartfelt messages written on it, by Lance Corporal Fred Maciel's fellow Marines.

The tribute was meant to got to his family, but somehow got lost.

It was lost, until Walter Brown found it at flea market in Hemphill.  "The lady just said it's $5. She said it has been written on you know that, I said that's ok I'll go ahead and buy it," Brown said.

Brown's own son is a Marine, and after reading the messages, he knew he needed to get the flag home.

The Brown family tracked down Patsy Maciel and Brown's wife personally put the flag into Maciel's arms.  "I got peace in my heart, you know I'm happy.  This is all for my son, nobody forgot my son," Maciel said. Tribute Flag Returned To Fallen Marine's Mom
