UPDATE: 2 Children Killed In East Travis Co. Crash Not Wearing Seatbelts

UPDATE: According to DPS Trooper Robbie Barerra, the two children who died at the scene were not restrained with seatbelts. It is unknown at this time if the other children were wearing seatbelts or not and the crash is still under investigation.

If any charges are warranted, they will not be filed until the investigation is complete, Barerra says.

3:30 p.m. UPDATE: Investigators say a black truck was traveling eastbound at the FM 812 and FM 973 intersection when it swerved to avoid another truck that had stopped because some equipment had fallen out of it.

The black truck rolled multiple times, ejecting two children. It's unknown if they were wearing safety seats, officials say.

The driver -- identified as Grisela Ambriz, 27 -- was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries. Her six-year-old son and seven year-old daughter were killed in the crash.

A 13-year-old girl and a five year-old boy were also taken to Dell Children's Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

DPS officials say the road will be remain closed until Thursday evening as they investigate.

1:20 p.m. UPDATE: Of the three injured, two children have been transported to Dell Children's Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The third person, an adult, will be transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge, EMS says.

EARLIER:

Two children are dead after a rollover crash Thursday afternoon on east Travis County.

It happened at around 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of FM 973 and FM 812, just east of Hwy 183.

Austin-Travis County EMS says it was a single-vehicle rollover crash with two children killed and three others injured.

Further details were not immediately available. We have a crew on the way and we will update this story as we learn more.
