UPDATE: Man Charged For Stabbing Ex-Wife In Front Of East Austin School

Wed. 2:30 p.m. UPDATE: Police says 32-year-old Felipe Mendez-Acosta has been charged for the stabbing.

11 a.m. UPDATE: The victim is now in stable condition.

Austin Police have a man in custody for stabbing his ex-wife in front of their kids' school in East Austin Monday morning.

Police received the report at 8:32 a.m. that a stabbing occurred in the intersection of Lehigh Dr. and Northeast Drive, in front of Andrews Elementary School.

Officials say the former couple got in an argument in front of the school after one of them dropped their children off at school. The situation escalated and the male suspect reportedly stabbed his 26-year-old ex-wife, critically injuring her.

Witnesses on the scene held the suspect down until officers arrived.

All children were in school when it happened and Andrews Elementary school was very briefly locked down.

According to EMS, the female victim was transported to UMC Brackenridge and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Child Protective Services has been called for the two kids until additional family is reached.
