Update: Pilot Identified After Fatal Plane Crash In NW Travis County

Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of the pilot who died in a plane crash in Northwest Travis County.

DPS says 24 year-old John Sasser from Austin died after the small plane he was flying hit trees and a power line.

At least one person is dead after a small plane went down in northwest Travis County Saturday morning.

Details are few at this time, but a Travis County Sheriff's Office spokesman confirmed that the Department of Public Safety has arrived on scene and at least one person is deceased.

Fire crews were working a grass fire in the area since 9:30 a.m.  STARFlight was assisting by dropping water and noticed the downed plane.

The plane went down near Singleton Bend Road, west of Lago Vista.

DPS will be the lead investigative agency until the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board arrive.
