UPDATED: Man Charged In NE Austin Crash That Left 2 Dead

Updated: Friday, June 13 2014, 03:21 PM CDT

UPDATE: Police have identified the second victim as 44-year-old Johnny Viera.

Police have charged a man for the deaths of a man and a five-year-old boy killed in a crash in Northeast Austin Tuesday night.

Marco Oliva-Quevedo, 27, has been charged with murder and intoxication manslaughter. Further charges are pending police say.

It happened at around 6:50 p.m. at the intersection of East Parmer Lane and Harris Branch Parkway.

Investigators say Oliva-Quevedo was driving a 2001 Honda Civic eastbound on Parmer Lane when he ran a red light at the Harris Branch Parkway intersection and t-boned a 2004 Ford F-150 truck on the driver's side, causing the truck to roll.

The driver of the truck -- identified only as a 44-year-old man -- was wearing a seat belt, but was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

The passengers in the Civic, both children, were transported to Dell Children's Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The five year-old male passenger -- identified as Leyland Oliva -- later died at the hospital, police say.

This case is still being investigated. Anyone with information is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-5594.

This is Austin's 23rd fatal traffic crash and the 29th fatality of 2014. At this time in 2013, there were 32 traffic fatalities.
