Williamson Co. Drivers Get Relief With Opening of O'Connor Drive

Updated: Friday, August 8 2014, 06:27 PM CDT
Williamson County commuters getting some traffic relief they've been asking for, for years.

Navigating to and from 620 to the 45 toll road, and avoiding I-35 is about to get a lot easier.

O'Connor Drive construction is almost wrapped up.

It's quiet on O'Connor Drive right now, but soon those orange barrels will be gone, and the road work will come to an end.

Williamson County Commissioner Lisa Birkman says, "This project has been in the works since 1999, so it has been 15 years in the making."
After three years of construction, and just in time for back to school, O'Connor drive will open August 21.

"It will relieve congestion on a lot of the area roads. Such as 620, Parmer, I-35," says Birkman.

There's now an exit and entrance ramp off 45 to O'Connor drive and you can take O'Connor right to 620.

Birkman says, "It was asked for by many residents in the area, because people cut through their neighborhood. People in brushy creek wanted it to get to work in Austin."

The total cost of this project, was 25 million dollars.
