Woman Dies Weeks After NE Austin Crash

Updated: Monday, June 30 2014, 03:46 PM CDT

A woman has died from injuries she suffered in a crash in Northeast Austin earlier this month.

The initial crash happened Friday, June 6 at around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hwy 290 and SH 130.

Investigators say 65-year-old Maria Sagno Flores was a passenger in a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling eastbound on the Hwy 290 service road when it crashed into a Toyota Camry traveling southbound on the SH 130 service road.

Police say the vehicles crashed into one another and both drivers claimed they had a green light.

Flores was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with a complaint of pain -- but just over two weeks later on June 23 she died of complications due to trauma to the chest.

Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in this incident, investigators say.

This case is still being investigated. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-8543.

This is Austin's 25th fatal traffic crash and the 32nd fatality of 2014. At this time in 2013, there were 39 fatality crashes and 40 fatalities.
