Woman Shocked Home Belonged To Serial Killer

Updated: Wednesday, July 9 2014, 02:04 PM CDT

A Missouri woman says she never would have rented a home in a North St. Louis County neighborhood if she had known it used to belong to a serial killer.

And KMOV.com reports the landlord -- the mother of the killer -- never told the renter the history of the home.

In fact, in Missouri, you don't have to say anything to a buyer or renter if the home was the scene of suicide, murder or violent crime.

Catrina McGhaw says she was not aware of any issues with the home when she signed the lease to the home. But after watching a cold case documentary on TV, she discovered she was living in the same house that was used as a torture chamber by serial killer Maury Travis.

McGhaw asked the landlord to let her out of the lease but she said no, but after an investigation by KMOV.com the local Housing and Urban Development office negotiated McGhaw out of the lease.
