Young Adults Learn Life Of Firefighters

Updated: Saturday, July 26 2014, 07:28 PM CDT

Dozens of young people learned what it takes to be a firefighter and will decide if it’s the career for them.

On Saturday, 33 individuals, ages 18-24, graduated from Austin Fire Department’s Pass The Torch program.

The program is designed to give people a glimpse into the life of a firefighter and see if life in the fire service is the right one for them.

Some of the activities the students participated were using water hoses, practice with vehicle-extraction tools, wear fire gear and participate in simulated fire scenes, and attend ride-outs.

Classes were for once a month for 5 months.
