New Bike Park May Be Coming To Cedar Park

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 09:47 PM CDT

Cedar Park is looking into a bike park and wants the public to be a part of the plan.

Curt Randa, the city's parks and recreation director, says the idea came from skate park users.

"A lot of kids were using our new skate park that was built in 2010 and wanted a place where they could ride their bikes as well," says Randa.

There is a make-shift bike park built by volunteers at Milburn Park, but city officials want to build a hard surface area for bikes.

It's still in the planning stages, so no word yet on what it will cost, but city officials say the money won't come from property taxes.

Randa says, "This project would be funded by the community development corporation, that's a half cent sales tax that is used for street and park projects."

The goal is to start construction is October 2014 and could be done in about a year.

There will be a public design workshop on Wednesday where people can give their input on the project.
