Giant Pumpkins on the Grow

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 09:47 PM CDT
Halloween is more than a month away, but you wouldn't know that looking at one farmer's crop.

Andrew Scalise of western New York has been harvesting giant pumpkins for about 10 years, and he currently has four growing.

Each one consumes more than 100 gallons of water every day that is pumped from a nearby pond.
This year, his biggest pumpkin is estimated at 12-hundred pounds and it's still growing.

"It's growing probably 15 to 18 pounds a day right now. But with cold weather nights coming it might slow down but we'll see what happens.  Mother nature lets us know.” Scalise says.

The biggest pumpkin will be entered into a competition on September 30th.

The second biggest has already been sold to a greenhouse in New Jersey.
