High School Football Game Ends In Brawl

Updated: Tuesday, September 3 2013, 01:02 PM CDT

A high school football game turned into boxing night at a high school football game in Alabama Friday night. A pair of prep football coaches got into a fist fight and police had to break them up.

The bench-clearing brawl came after a close game between rivals Cullam and Walker High Schools. Cullman had just beaten Walker, 13-10, on a 6-yard run with 18 seconds left in the game. Several people believe that the referees were making several questionable calls, with at least 20 penalties.

Cullman Defensive Coordinator Matt Hopper was escorted from the field with a bloody, bruised face. His foe, Walker Coach John Holladay, was placed on administrative leave.

"I understand there is no need to reprimand our coaches and players. They acted with class and dignity during the situation," said Cullman's school board president Suzanne Harbin.

On the other side, Walker school officials have placed Holladay on administrative leave while they investigate. The Alabama High School Athletic Association is also investigating.
