World's Largest Gingerbread House in Central Texas

Updated: Tuesday, December 3 2013, 10:36 AM CST

Everyone knows the saying, "everything's bigger in Texas," and now that's true for the holidays.

The city of Bryan recently unveiled the world's largest gingerbread house.

Guinness World Records officials say it measures more than 39,000 cubic feet.  Of course, it had to be edible, and with a house that big, you can bet the calories are outrageous. Chef Michael Menchaca, who made the gingerbread house, say it comes in at 35,823,400 calories.

Menchaca admitted there were struggles along the way, with changes in weather, he had to start over at times. But his efforts were all for charity. He wanted to raise money for the trauma center at St. Joseph's Hospital.
