West Explosion Victim Thanks Her Lifesavers

Updated: Wednesday, June 12 2013, 11:53 AM CDT

A woman who was trapped in the West Fertilizer plant explosion is thanking the firemen who pulled her safety.

Misty Lambert lived in the apartment complex that sits directly behind the West Fertilizer Plant. Misty was standing in front of a window when the explosion sent shards of glass into her face and body.

"I'm grateful that I’m still alive and that my children are still alive and can see me," says Lambert.

Lambert underwent 20 hours of surgery, but pushed through recovery.

"I was meant to be here and while others perished I was meant to be here for a reason and what that reason may be I don't know yet but there's a reason why I'm here," says Lambert.

Scott Garner and Billy Brown of the Leroy-Axtell Volunteer Fire Department pulled Lambert from underneath the rubble of her apartment.

“We told her just stay with we're going to get you out of here get you to the hospital to get you set up," Billy Brown said.

Misty, Scott and Billy have been in contact since the incident, but until now she has never had the chance to say thank you in person.

"They rewarded me with my second chance of life, and they gave me hope and I didn't have any...I was ready to let go," says Lambert.
