Health Officials Expect Fewer Cases Of West Nile After Rains

Wondering if the weekend rain will add to the mosquito problem and worsen the West Nile outbreak?
Experts tell us the wet weather will likely improve the mosquito situation in central Texas.
“Actually with the rains it may have helped us some. Wash out a lot of the mosquitoes and with cooler temps you may see a decrease in the mosquito population,” says Eda Gowdy with the Austin/Travis County Health Department.
Gowdy says she expects fewer West Nile cases in the weeks to come.
So far this year, there have been 76 cases of the West Nile virus in Travis and surrounding counties.
Three people in the Austin area have died due to West Nile.
