The Austin Police Department needs your help this Saturday to deliver gifts to families and children all over Austin as part of their Blue Santa Program.

Operation Blue Santa was created in 1972 by two APD patrol officers who realized that some families in their area would not have gifts or food for their children at Christmas. The distribution began with 20 families from the back of a patrol car. Today Operation Blue Santa serves more than 3,500 families receiving gifts and a Christmas dinner during the holiday season.

With such a large number of donations APD says they need as much help as they can get to deliver the presents. Anna Sabana with the Austin Police Department says, “Come help to deliver gifts, we’ll be here till the job gets done.”

If you would like to volunteer the packages can be picked up at the Operation Blue Santa headquarters located at 4101 South Industrial Drive, Suite 260.

Fore more information you can also call Operation Blue Santa at 512-220-BLUE or visit them on the web at bluesanta.org.
