Astros Purchase Corpus Christi Hooks from Ryan-Sanders Baseball

Updated: Thursday, October 3 2013, 05:58 PM CDT

KEYE TV's Adam Winkler has learned that owner Jim Crane and the Houston Astros have purchased the Corpus Christi Hooks, the franchise's Double-A affiliate, from Ryan-Sanders Baseball. The sale was finalized Monday September 30. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Ryan-Sanders Baseball consists of more than 60 minority shareholders and was founded by Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan's son, Reid and Houston businessman Don Sanders. Reid Ryan was named president of the Astros in May.

In 2003, as owners of the Double-A Round Rock Express, Ryan-Sanders Baseball purchased the Triple-A Edmonton Trappers and moved the team to Round Rock for the 2005 season. The Express then moved its Double-A affiliation to Corpus Christi as the team remained linked with the Houston Astros. Whataburger Field, home of the Hooks, opened in 2005.
