Austin Area Fields Bring Hope

Updated: Sunday, May 11 2014, 11:42 PM CDT

Monday was both literally and figuratively a groundbreaking day around the Austin area.  Because of the charitable work of some great Austinites, a whole bunch of kids will have the opportunity to play sports on some amazing fields.

The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation joined forces with Central Texas Ability Sports and broke ground on KCCO Ability Field in Hutto.  The goal is to give children with physical and mental disabilities a safe place to play sports.  Chive Charities made a major donation to help make the field a possibility.

Meanwhile in East Austin, members of the Round Rock Express, Ryan-Sanders Baseball, RBI Austin, GEAYA and Reckless Kelly put the finishing touches on Mabson Field.  It's a new artificial turf baseball field designed to serve boys and girls ages 4-12.  They hope it can become a life-changing center for baseball and softball in East Austin.
