Bob's Blog: A Boston Tragedy

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 09:47 PM CDT
The Red Sox kicked off Patriots' Day with a dramatic walk-off win in the 9th inning today.

Little did we know then we would beg for more drama like that.

The celebration quickly turned to tragedy with the bombings at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.  Out of 23,326 people who started the race, 4,496 did not finish because of yet another senseless act on civilians.

Tonight should be a celebration of Japan's Hioryuki Yamamoto.  In one hour 25 minutes he covered 26.2 miles to win the wheelchair portion of the marathon.  It should not have to be video of people having to get wheelchairs to help victims of a bomb.  Tonight should be a celebration of women's champion Rita Jeptoo from Kenya and men's champion Lelisa Desisa from Ethiopa - they crossed the treasured finish line first.  It should not have to be video of an empty finish line that shows debris from a bomb.

Many are arguing over the insignificants of today's tragedy - please save your breath.  Instead take a few minutes tonight and send your thoughts and prayers to the one's that need it most.  They need that a lot more than anyone else needs your opinion.
