Campbell Continues to Battle

Updated: Tuesday, September 18 2012, 10:48 PM CDT

Earl Campbell continues to battle. The 57-year old Campbell currently has two main health fights on his agenda – his own, and his son’s.

Affectionately known as “The Tyler Rose”, Campbell recently found out he has nerve issues, but that wasn’t the original thought.

He is working with a neurologist in the Austin area.  The doctor saw some issues, but didn’t tell Campbell exactly what those issues were.  Her concerns led her to send Campbell to Houston for more tests.

“I’m so happy … I have to walk in all these rooms and tell people ‘You do have it, you don’t have it,” the Houston neurologist said to Campbell.

“Have what?” answered Campbell, obviously all-at-once wondering why the tests were run.

“You don’t have ALS,” the doctor explained.

A relieved Campbell is now beginning treatment for the nerve damage that he knows is in part due to his football playing days.

He’s continuing to battle another fight though – the battle his son is experiencing with Multiple Sclerosis.  Tyler was diagnosed in 2007.

Campbell and his son presented a check to the MS Society’s Scholarship Program for $60,000.
