Dalton Santos Fights for Mom

Updated: Thursday, April 24 2014, 11:00 AM CDT

Texas linebacker Dalton Santos is a playmaker. Longhorn fans have grown accustomed to his toughness on the field, but now it's Santos who is realizing how much he means to Longhorn fans.

Two days after the UT spring game, Santos got a call no child should ever get. His brother informed him his mom was rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart aneurysm. She will now have to have open heart surgery, and as an uninsured, single nurse with three kids, that was a heavy blow.

Doctors told Santos the surgery would cost in the range of 150 thousand dollars. Desperate for help the UT linebacker turned to the place that he thought he could draw the most attention - Twitter and Facebook.

His expectations were to hopefully raise a couple hundred or thousand dollars.

As of Wednesday night, donations had topped 40 thousand dollars.

The battle will continue for the Santos family, but just like his mom, Dalton continues to show unimaginable strength.
