Mack Brown Addresses Media Prior To Summer Break

Updated: Thursday, June 14 2012, 07:48 AM CDT
In what will likely be his final meeting with the press before Big 12 Media Days in late July, Thursday, Mack Brown covered more ground than a family of four on a three week summer vacation.

From Matthew McConaughey's new movie, to the Longhorns new team dietician, to the NBA Finals.  He even discussed a little football, too.

"We're a young football team, next year we'll be an older football team," said Brown.

Even though UT's first game is still more than 75 days away, the team already has its season motto.  The acronym R-I-S-E. It stands for Relentless, Intensity, Swagger, Emotion.  However, the "s" word is still under scrutiny.

"A number of our coaches and Bennie thought [the "s" should stand for] 'sacrifice' first, then you get your 'swagger'," Brown said.  "You don't come off 8-and-5 with swagger, you have to earn that right."

Points of emphasis on offense this fall will be the passing game and offensive line depth.  Defensively, it's forcing turnovers and getting healthy in the secondary.  But really, the goal is just to win more.

"This year they want to rise away from eight wins," said the 15th year UT head coach.  "That's what we want.  I think the fact that they know eight is not good enough is good, and that they will talk about it publicly.  That's where we're headed."Mack Brown Addresses Media Prior To Summer Break
