Major Applewhite Addresses Affair

Updated: Thursday, March 7 2013, 08:24 PM CST

Thursday night Texas co-offensive coordinator Major Applewhite spoke publicly for the first time about the affair he had with a UT student in 2009.  It's the first time Applewhite has met with the media since the news broke Feb. 1.

"I told the guys, sometimes something really bad can happen to you it can be the best thing in the world that happened to you.  It can make you appreciate things, not take things for granted," said Applewhite.

Texas released a statement in February acknowledging Applewhite engaged in "inappropriate, consensual behavior with an adult student" during UT’s trip to play in the 2009 Fiesta Bowl.  DeLoss Dodds reprimanded him and froze his salary through January 1, 2010.

Applewhite's hope is that the players can learn from his wrongdoing.

"We're all gonna have a very big mistake in our life, and hopefully it's not as big as mine, but it’s important you come forth, be forthright and handle it with your family and you move on and you handle it like a man."

"It's life.  It's gonna happen, so, don't act like it didn't happen.  Let's address it and let's all learn from it."Major Applewhite Addresses Affair
