Marble Falls'™ Leo Manzano Take Silver At London Olympics

Updated: Tuesday, August 7 2012, 04:22 PM CDT
Former Longhorn and American distance runner Leo Manzano won the silver medal in the Men’s 1500-meter race Tuesday afternoon.

Manzano, 27, entered the final turn in sixth place, sprinting his way into second over the final stretch of the competition. He posted his best time of the year in the event, finishing in 3 minutes and 34.79 seconds.

Manzano is the first American man to medal in the 1500-meter since Jim Ryun took the silver in the 1968 Olympics.

Born in Mexico, Manzano moved to Texas at the age of four and went on to attend Marble Falls High School, where he was a nine-time Texas 4A champion. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin, becoming a two-time NCAA champion, a six-time All-American and a seven-time Big 12 champion.
