Think Twice Before Filling Out Patient Information Forms

When it comes to your medical records, what if your health information was just tossed in a dumpster for anyone to read?

Patient privacy rules in Texas require medical records be kept at least seven years. HIPAA also says personal health information cannot be disposed of in dumpsters accessible by the public unless the documents are rendered unreadable.

With identity theft such a growing problem, experts say we all need to start questioning what we're being asked to provide and why.
