2012 Turkey Trot Draws Over 21,000 To Downtown Austin

More than 21,000 runners, walkers and trotters showed up for the ThunderCloud Subs 22nd annual Turkey Trot in downtown Austin.

Andrew Letherby crossed the finish line first for the men with a time of 24:56.96. Kelly Williamson led the women and crossed the line first with a time of 27:50.05.

The 5-mile run is the largest race in Texas. The run started on the South 1st Street Bridge and continued along West 15th and West Cesar Chavez then finished in front of the Long Center on Riverside Drive.

For those that only wanted to stretch their legs for a little while opted for the 1-mile race. Kids also worked their legs while running the Stepping Stone Kids K.

ThunderCloud Subs co-owner Mike Haggerty said, “I can’t think of a more perfect way to start my Thanksgiving morning with my family and tens of thousands of friends.”

It’s safe to say that over 21,000 people shared that sentiment as they gobbled and trotted the streets of Austin.
