Manor Expressway Toll Road Opens To Drivers On Saturday
You’ll have your first chance to drive the new Manor Expressway in East Austin beginning Saturday morning.
The Expressway is the current Hwy 290 from Hwy 183 east pass the SH 130 toll road.
The first section to open will be the eastbound main lanes from Hwy 183 to east of Springdale Road. Later that same day, the southbound to eastbound direct connector ramp from Hwy 183 to the Manor Expressway will open. The rest of the flyover ramps at Hwy 183 and Hwy 290 will open in phases during the first week of December.
Construction of the $426.5 million, 6.2-mile, limited-access toll road began in 2010 and is being completed in phases. The first phase consists of a flyover interchange at Hwy 183 and Hwy 290 and a 1.4-mile stretch of the Manor Expressway between Hwy 183 and Springdale Road. Phase two will extend the Manor Expressway from Springdale Road to east of Parmer Lane and is projected to open in 2014.
Throughout the month of December, drivers will be able to travel toll free. The westbound lanes of the Manor Expressway between Springdale Road and US 183 should open in late December or early January. Tolling will begin in January 2013, once all of sections of phase one are open to traffic.
