Connecticut School Shooting: Parents Rush To School

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) -- The mother of an 8-year-old girl who attends Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., says it was "the happiest moment" of her life when she saw that her daughter was OK after today's shooting at the school.

Frantic parents rushed to the school to check on their children. One woman holding her two children outside the school said she was stunned that the shooting had happened in her town.

The father of one 8-year-old student says his daughter heard two loud bangs, before teachers huddled her and other students into a corner.

A photo posted by the Newtown Bee newspaper showed a group of children -- some crying, others visibly frightened -- being escorted by adults through a parking lot in a line, with their hands on each other's shoulders.
