Man Arrested For Shooting, Killing Dog In Eastern Travis County

Deputies arrested a man in eastern Travis County Thursday night for killing a dog with a shotgun blast.

According to the arrest affidavit, Joseph Warren Frye Jr., 18, is charged with animal cruelty, a state sail felony.

It happened in the 3500 block of River Road in Cedar Creek. Court documents say Travis County deputies were dispatched to the area after a woman called complaining that her dog had been shot. When they arrived they found a large mixed breed dog dead from a shotgun blast to the head. The spent shotgun casing was found right next to the dog.

The woman said she suspected Frye as the shooter. Deputies found him nearby and when he was questioned by deputies he admitted to shooting the dog, but said he had defended himself because it was acting aggressive, according to the affidavit.

Frye does not have a vehicle and rides around the neighborhood on a bicycle, according to deputies.

A witness at the scene said that he had heard the shot and pellets from the blast had hit the side of his home. He went outside and found the dead dog, that’s when Frye approached him and said he had shot it and was looking for another dog to kill, court documents said.

Frye was arrested and the shotgun was later found at his father’s house.
