Newspapers Texans Of The Year Scott And Morton

DALLAS (AP) -- The Dallas Morning News Texans of the Year are two men who devoted themselves to exposing and fighting injustice after being exonerated following years in prison for crimes they didn't commit.

The News says in an editorial that Christopher Scott and Michael Morton, who were serving life sentences before being declared innocent, "opted this year to commit their time, fame and money to fixing the flawed justice system that came close to destroying their lives."

The newspaper said the work by each man to "help end this state's embarrassing record of wrongful convictions goes beyond exceptional."

Scott has formed a nonprofit to help innocent prisoners clear their names. While Morton has been lobbying for reforms, including tightening requirements for prosecutors to turn over potentially exculpatory evidence to the defense.
