High Fire Danger in Central Texas Today

Behind the front that moved through, windy and dry conditions have moved in.  The combination of high winds and low humidity can cause fires that start or any sparks to spread or grow rapidly.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect until 3:00pm today for extremely windy and dry weather.  Expect north winds 15-25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph during that time.

You can help by avoiding the use of any open flames, putting out cigarettes, mowing the lawn or using anything that can cause sparks.

Also, you can prevent fires from occurring around your home by creating a defensible space.  This means keeping your trees trimmed and removing any dry brush and debris.
