Cedar Park Launches Phone App To Connect With Citizens
The city of Cedar Park now has a new phone app that allows you to easily report minor problems to the city.
The "CP Connect" app cost $2,000 to set up and will cost $6,000 per year to operate. For the money, they can provide residents a phone app that lets them easily report a number of issues like road hazards and damaged street signs.
And a big selling point is ease of use. You don't have to know the exact address in order to report a problem. For instance if you spot some graffiti you can open up the app, snap a picture and use the phone’s GPS coordinates to tell the city where the problem is.
Convenient? You bet. But you don't have to go far to find someone who thinks it’s too convenient for the government. One local businessman tells us, “Now I'm recording where you are and what you're doing."
But a coworker liked the idea, especially if you encounter a problem that's hard to put into words. He told us, “You have trouble explaining it. You don't know exactly what it is. You take a picture. That's a really good idea actually."
CP Connect is available to you 24/7. But remember it's not for emergencies so it's only monitored by city staff during regular business hours.
Cedar Park’s CP Connect is a free app available for iPhones, Androids and Window Phones. Just go to your phone’s app store and search for Cedar Park, Texas.
