Police Investigating Fatal South Austin Traffic Crash


Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that happened on Manchaca Road in South Austin Monday afternoon.

It happened at around 1 p.m. in the 6600 block of Manchaca Rd., between William Cannon Drive and Stassney Lane.

Austin police say one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were transported to a hospital, their condition is unknown.

A preliminary investigation shows the victim was driving a white Nissan northbound on Manchaca but then crossed into southbound traffic, causing a collision with a GMC pickup truck and a Chevrolet sedan.

The roadway was closed for several hours.

This is Austin's 74th traffic fatality of 2012.
