Aggie Fans Celebrate Johnny Manziel Heisman

Leading up the 2012 Heisman announcement, a hush fell over the crowd of about 400 Texas A&M fans during a Heisman watch party at the downtown bar Third base.

Then, when A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was announced as Heisman winner, the crowd erupted in cheers.

Craig Rodgers comes from a long line of Aggies and said tonight was a victory for the university. Rodgers said the moments leading up to the announcement were tense.

“Total silence. You could cut the tension in the air,” Rodgers said. “When they announced his name it was an instant eruption.”

Aggie fans exploded with Earth-shattering cheers as Manziel shattered the mold as the first freshman to win the trophy.  A&M fans celebrated with hugs, high-fives and there was plenty of emotion.  Several of the fans said the first thought after Manziel’s name was called was how special it was for the University and it’s fans.

Former A&M student, Laura Hutchison, said Manziel deserved to win the trophy and was thrilled to be a part of the experience.

“Thank goodness they didn’t think he was just a freshman and didn’t deserve it,” Hutchison said. “I mean, I bleed maroon, so this is such an honor to be part of the whole experience and to have a Heisman.”

When Johnny’s name was called the small-town kid received a big cheer from his supporters in Austin, and then the crowd finished off the celebration with the A&M fight song.
