Police Vehicle Struck By Driver Suspected of DWI, No Injuries Reported

A man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after colliding with an unoccupied police car early Saturday morning.

According to APD dispatchers, the suspect reportedly drove into the back of the unoccupied police vehicle, which was assisting in an unrelated crash in the 1100 block of Southbound IH 35 near Riverside Drive just before 4 a.m.

The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene to assist.
Officials say the police unit was parked in a lane while investigating the other crash, with warning lights activated to alert drivers.

Police say the suspect, who has not been identified, failed to recognize the police unit’s emergency lights and struck the vehicle.

EMS responded to the scene, but no injuries were reported.

The suspect was arrested for a 3rd Degree Felony – DWI.
