Motorcyclist Killed In South Austin Accident Identified

The man killed after a motorcycle crash Wednesday night in South Austin has been identified.

Police say they responded to the crash at Ben White Boulevard and South 1st Street at around 11 p.m.

Investigators say 21-year-old Jeremy Jess Abalos was riding a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle eastbound in the 600 block of W. Ben White when he ran the red light at South 1st Street intersection and collided with the passenger side of a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu.  The impact caused the Malibu to veer to the left where it collided with a gray van. The van did not stop or remain at the scene of the crash.

Abalos was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  The passenger in the Malibu was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 512-974-5232.

This is Austin's 77th traffic fatality of 2012. At this time in 2011, there were 51 traffic fatalities.
