Operation Blue Santa Needs More Toys
It’s down to the wire for Operation Blue Santa which serves thousands of Austin families with a full holiday meal and wrapped Christmas gifts for each child under 14.
Despite a huge turnout at this weekend’s Chuy's Children Giving to Children Parade, volunteers say they’re actually behind.
The group has taken on an addition 6,000 families after the president of the Christmas Bureau disappeared without notice and is now under investigation.
Blue Santa is trying to check off both lists, to make sure all Santa families have a Merry Christmas.
Donations are currently at about 40 percent of what they need.
Blue Santa is asking for new, unwrapped toys and Monterey donations. Examples of toys include:
Infants --2 years old:
Stuff Animals that have sewed eye (Sock Monkey’s are great and baby Disney characters), plastic play key sets, blankets (can be substitute for stuff animals), rattles of all kinds, soft plastic toys with no removable parts, Sippy cups with different characters, electronic educational toys with animal sounds (See and Say types), new and still in package bottle sets, crib mobiles, floor mats with mobiles, Animal shaped flash lights with animal sounds, bath toys (rubber ducky types)
12 to 14 year olds:
Table games, handheld games, athletic balls, CD players, iPods, artist supplies, jewelry (girls and boys watches, bracelets, ear rings, etc.), Craft sets (latch hook, mosaic, paint by # sets), brush/comb sets, curling irons, hair straightners, nail polish with manicure sets, crochet hats and glove sets, scarf all types and colors, hair clips set or scrounges, remote control (cars, trucks, planes and boats), Insect collection equipment (ant farm types), model car kits.
