Two Killed in Weekend North Austin Car Crash Identified


Police have identified the man and woman killed in a single vehicle crash early Saturday morning on an I-35 frontage road in North Austin.

Investigators say 26-year-old Frank Castillo Jr. (pictured) and 19-year-old Jennifer Sherer were driving northbound in the 9400 Block of the North I-35 service road just north of Rundberg Lane when the driver, Sherer, accelerated through the intersection and began to slide sideways. The vehicle then collided with a building on the east side of the service road. 

Castillo was pronounced deceased at the scene. Sherer was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge where she died a short time later as a result of her injuries. 

The speed of the vehicle and roadway conditions are believed to be contributing factors in this crash, according to police.

These are Austin’s 75th  and 76th traffic fatalities of 2012. At this time in 2011, there were 51 traffic fatalities.
