Texan Killed In Take Over Of Algerian Natural Gas Facility
U.S. officials say one American has died in the hostage standoff at an Algerian gas complex.
The officials say the deceased American is a Texas resident, Frederick Buttaccio. It is unclear how he died. The officials say Buttaccio's remains have been recovered and his family has been notified.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't
authorized to speak publicly on the matter.
Two other Texans survived the attack.
Mark Cobb, the president of the facility, escaped.
KZTV in Corpus Christi reports Mark Cobb, a Corpus Christie native, hid in an unused room of the facility during the attack, then escaped unharmed. A family friend received a text message from Cobb Friday that simply read, "I'm alive."
CBS Houston reports a man from Nederland survived. The family of man, who has not been identified, received a call from the State Department Friday saying he was alive and well.
