Police Searching For Leads In Far East Austin Car Crash Murder

The Austin Police Department says they need the public's help in finding the suspect in the murder of a teen in far East Austin last October.

Police say 17-year-old Efren Gonzalez-Rojas Jr. was killed Sunday, Oct. 24 2012 when his car crashed into an electrical pole at Loyola Lane and Millrace Drive, just east of Hwy 183, at around 2:20 a.m.

Investigators say that earlier that night Gonzalez-Rojas and the occupants of another vehicle became involved in a verbal disturbance in the parking lot of Club Escapade located at 6575 Decker Lane just east of the crash site.

The disturbance carried out onto the roadway and quickly escalated, but at some point both vehicles were travelling westbound on Loyola Lane when a vehicle rammed Gonzalez-Rojas's car from behind, causing him to leave the roadway and strike the pole.

Gonzalez-Rojas was ejected from his vehicle. He was taken by Austin/Travis County EMS to University Medical Center at Brackenridge where he was pronounced deceased.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene and has not been located. The vehicle is described as a large white or grey colored pickup truck, possibly a Ford Super Duty. This truck possibly had front end damage. The driver of the vehicle is described as a light skinned Hispanic male.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or CrimeStoppers at 512-472-TIPS or text "Tip 103" your message to CRIMES. You may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if your tip leads to an arrest or charges being filed.

This was Austin's 26th murder of 2012.
