A man was pronounced dead hours after crashing a car into an Austin home.

Austin Police say it happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday in the 6600 block of Northeast Drive, near Hwy 290 and Hwy 183.

Witnesses tell police the driver of the car, identified as 30-year-old Patric Vonzell Alexander, appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and went airborne. The car crashed through the side of the home ending upside down.

Austin police say firefighters had to extricate Vonzell from the car. Police say he had a felony warrant out for an undisclosed crime. He was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge in critical condition and later died according to police.
