New Texas Pain Treatment Helps Earl Campbell, Others


University of Texas football legend Earl Campbell has suffered from chronic pain over the years.  A revolutionary treatment is already helping ease that pain though - not just for Campbell - but for many living with painful disorders.

A young boy with a neurological reflex disorder has more in common with Longhorn Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell than you might think.  Especially when it comes to chronic pain.

"I stay in pain so much until it's just something I learn to live with over the years," Campbell said.

Live with - but not accept.

After enduring several surgeries on his back over the years, Campbell is trying something new.  It's a cutting edge treatment called Vecttor.

Designed by Houston-area pain physician Dr. Donald Rhodes, the device uses electrodes to help increase oxygen levels in the blood stream and improve circulation.

"What we're hoping to do is improve his quality of life and improve his ability to walk," he said.

Videos posted online by Rhodes and his team show dramatic results.  Recently, the FDA approved Vecttor for the treatment of chronic pain, but soon it will be tested out on patients with muscular dystrophy as part of a clinical trial in Houston.

"It's a completely different way of looking at the world," Rhodes said.

Campbell's first treatment lasted just over an hour.  One thing he does have now - just like the boy in this video - hope.
