Online Petition Asks Austin Council To Remove Armstrong From Bikeway Name
A petition is online asking the Austin City Council to change the name of the Lance Armstrong Bikeway.
The bike trail runs from just west of MoPac to Airport Boulevard. (See map here.)
The petition is on change.org, a website that allow any user to create then publicize a petition. The wording of the petition is:
To: Austin City Council
We are petitioning the City of Austin to strip the name of Lance Armstrong of of the Lance Armstrong Bikeway.
Lance Armstrong admitted that he cheated and lied to win his record 7 Tours de France. In the process he sued, threatened, intimidated and destroyed the lives of many people who simply told the truth.
During his recent interview with Oprah Winfrey, he continued to lie and distort the truth.
Lance Armstrong is a disgrace to the City of Austin and his name should be removed from all city facilities, specifically the Lance Armstrong Bikeway.
As of 3:30 p.m., the petition had 13 signatures.
