Retail Austin Gasoline Prices Up 6 Cents

Drivers across Texas have been paying more for gasoline this week with retail prices up an average nickel per gallon, and six cents higher in the Austin-area.

AAA Texas on Thursday reported the statewide average price at the pump has reached $3.18 per gallon. Gasoline prices also rose nationally this week, adding 2 cents to reach $3.31 per gallon.

The association survey found Dallas has the most expensive gasoline in Texas at $3.22 per gallon. The cheapest gasoline statewide is in El Paso at $2.99 per gallon. Austin had an average of $3.17 a gallon.

AAA Texas predicts gasoline prices will rise through April or early May but at a slower pace than last year. Experts say it's typical for prices to go up during winter months due to season demand and in anticipation of the switchover to more expensive summer-blend gasoline.
