New Cedar Park Police Chief To Be Sworn In

Cedar Park's new police chief says he is ready to tackle trouble. Sean Mannix will be sworn in as the city's top cop on Thursday.

Mannix will oversee 80 officers and 30 support personnel.  He takes office during a turbulent time in Texas, as the heated debate over the right to bear arms fires up.

"Gun ownership is not problematic, illegal gun ownership is problematic.  It is my expectation that we will vigorously enforce violation of gun laws.  But in no way, shape or form do we have a position on gun control," says Mannix.

He says he believes Cedar Park is a very safe place to live and the police department will grow and change to meet the city's needs.

Mannix left his job as the assistant police chief at the Austin Police Department to take on this new post.
