Cedar Park Still Working On Schlitterbahn Deal 3 Years Later
After three years, Cedar Park officials say they're still working on an agreement with Schlitterbahn to get a water park built in the city.
The site was going to be near the intersection of FM 1431 and Toro Grande Boulevard, but developers have still not broken ground.
The Cedar Park City Council unanimously approved the project in January 2010. Plans originally called for a $360 million resort with lodging, retail, restaurants, and a conference center, but it has now been scaled back to a $75 million 16-acre indoor/outdoor convertible water park, according to a page on the city's website that has updates on current projects.
"Typically projects of this size entail a lot of details and moving parts which need to be worked through in order to determine whether or not an agreement can be reached," says Phil Brewer, the Economic Development Director of Cedar Park. "This is considered an active prospect with City and Schlitterbahn officials continuing to meet and discuss the development of a water park project in Cedar Park."
For now, discussions are still ongoing, according to Brewer.
