More Than 100 Arrested During New Year's Weekend "No Refusal" Initiative

More than 100 drunk drivers were pulled off Austin streets and taken to jail this holiday season.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo made it clear before the holiday weekend, that drinking and driving would not be tolerated.

APD's "no refusal" initiative was extended to the entire weekend to cut back on drunk drivers.

Monday night there were 31 arrests for DWI in Austin, bringing the weekend total to 103.

"No-Refusal" means that DWI suspects that refuse to voluntarily give a breath or blood specimen will have blood drawn for testing anyway. Those found to have a blood alcohol concentration of .15 or above will be charged with a Class A Misdemeanor, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine for the first time offenders.
