11 Horses Perish In North Texas Fire

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Fire officials in Fort Worth say 11 horses have been killed in a fast-moving stable fire.

A Fort Worth police officer spotted flames about 2:30 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters and police were able to rescue eight horses from their stalls as they battled the fire. Fire Department spokesman Tim Hardeman tells the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (bit.ly/WpAS5f) three of the animals have been burned and one isn't expected to survive.

Two buildings have been destroyed and another heavily damaged. Hardeman says wind gusts of 20 mph helped stoke the flames at the privately owned stable where people paid to house their horses.

One firefighter suffered burns to his hands as he worked to free the animals. Cause of the blaze isn't immediately known.
