Round Rock PD: Robbery Suspect Started Fire To Escape With Jewelry Store Loot

Police say a woman robbed a Round Rock jewelry store Monday afternoon -- and she started a fire inside the store to make her escape.

It happened at around 1:45 p.m. at QT Jewelry, located at 220 Sundance Parkway, just north of SH 45 and west of I-35.

Round Rock police spokesperson Dee Carver says the robbery suspect entered the store and grabbed an unknown amount of jewelry and ran to the doors, but an employee was able to lock them to prevent her escape.

That's when the suspect pulled out a flammable liquid and started a fire, according to Carver.

The suspect was able to run out the back of the store and escape as store workers put out the blaze with fire extinguishers.

Carver says the suspect fled in an unknown direction of travel. A K9 police dog was called to aid in the search, but could not get a track on the suspect.

The suspect is described as an Asian female. She was last seen wearing a red knit cap, black jacket and glasses.

Carver says the fire caused minimal damage to the store.
