Southbound I-35 At Riverside Now Open

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: I-35 at Riverside is opening now.
UPDATE 11:15 a.m.: Police now say the cleanup is taking longer than expects. I-35 could be closed for several more hours.
UPDATE 10:30 a.m.: Police think interstate will be open at about 11 a.m.

Two 18-wheelers collided on I-35 southbound near Riverside Drive late Thursday night, keeping the interstate closed for 12 hours.

At 11 p.m. on Thursday, the driver of one of the trucks lost control of his vehicle on I-35 northbound, crossed the barrier wall and crashed into another 18-wheeler traveling Southbound. Both drivers suffered only minor injuries.

One of the trucks was carrying car batteries and spilled battery acid on the highway. Hazmat crews are on scene and will determine when to reopen the southbound lanes. Police expect around 8 a.m.

In the meantime southbound drivers have been detoured to the access road.
